Dental Hygiene Team

Emily

Emily - Registered Dental Hygienist

I like to focus on IMPROVING your current oral hygiene regimen...even if flossing is only a part of life when there’s a piece of food stuck!

It is of the utmost importance to me that you never feel judged while I am treating you, I’m just happy you walked in the door because it takes a strong person to be vulnerable! I am amazed every day with how close KDC becomes with our patients in such a short amount of time and I truly love hearing about everything from teeth, travel, food (yummm), family, hardships, good humor, goals...really just anything. How often do you get to put away all your outside distractions and just focus on yourself?

Outside of KDC, I enjoy food...seriously. My life’s biggest blessings are my husband and two beautiful daughters.

I don’t have a “quote” to live by, I just like to live!

Megan

Megan - Registered Dental Hygienist

Since I was 10 years old, I have wanted to be a dental hygienist. I was able to achieve my dream career in 2011 and it has been bliss ever since. KDC is not only my place of employment, but it is my home. I am forever grateful to be working everyday with the best dental team, especially within the “quiet corner” community. Here at KDC, I have the pleasure of meeting and treating such wonderful patients. I always look forward to seeing everyone at their recare appointments to not only catch up on life stories but also to provide a service that will keep them healthy for a lifetime!

When I’m not working, I am spending quality time with my wonderful husband, my 2 amazing children and my 2 dogs. I have an obsession with sports and fitness; so I can always be found either at a sporting event or the gym. I look forward in seeing you soon!

BIG RED IS N THE BUILDING !!!

I'm very outgoing passionate, loud, humble, vibrant, and respectful. My bright red hair is as bright as my personality.

I'm honored to be a part of KDC Family. This is truly my second family. I have a combination of 25+ years of Customer Service experience and Medical experience.

I love working with people. Some may say I have the "Gift of Gab." I take my time to understand and hear what the patients have to say.

Communication/Listening is key.

I make sure whether on the phone or face to face that each patient is treated special. It takes a special person to treat people this way and I'm that person. If you are nervous, anxious, scared or just not sure --I'm that person to help you feel comfortable and help you to relax along the way. It's the Dominique magic!

In my free time I enjoy my seafood. I'm traveling, putting stamps on my passport. I'm a grandmother of 2. They keep me on my toes.

I have many quotes, I love this one the most.

Love-- Like you have never loved before
Laugh-- Until you cry so hard that your tummy hurts

Alicia - KDC Orthodontics Patient Coordinator

I started my dental career journey in 2001 by attending Teamwork Allied Health Academy for the Dental Assisting Program and graduated in 2002. My first dental job was in a general dental office assisting but I really had a passion for working with children and I remembered how much I loved going to the orthodontist as a kid. From that point on, since 2003, I mainly worked with orthodontists as a trained Orthodontic Assistant. I have assisted at other dental specialty practices but I find myself drawn to orthodontics. I have also received a few Certifications in Accounting over the last couple years as I am expanding my career. I am very fortunate to be part of this amazing team here at KDC and I am here for my patients no matter what their needs are and love getting to know every family that walks through our door. I love the journey my patients experience from the first visit to the last and the confidence I see in my patients from the final results. The best part of my job is being able to follow up with patients throughout the years as they graduate high school and then college and/or when they stop in to say hello or just to make sure their retainers are still fitting properly. I am very excited for the future of KDC Orthodontics as we are expanding and I will be here every step of the way.

Dominique

Destiny - Lead Treatment Coordinator

Believe it or not, my dental Journey started at a very young age. I used to go to the dentist as a child to get my 6-month checkup and the occasional filling every now and then. One day I was getting work done and I happened to look up at the assistant and thought to myself, that would be a pretty cool job to do one day when I grow up. She was so nice and caring, and it seemed rewarding being able to help others. Well fast forward to now and as of today, I have been working in the Dental field for the past 19 years.

I started my career path by acquiring my medical assistant license and graduating from the high honors program in Brighton Massachusetts. Shortly after I completed my internship and started looking for a position in the medical field, my longtime friend happened to reach out to me. She informed me that her current boss was looking to hire a dental assistant and was willing to train the right person. At that point I had totally forgotten about what I had said to myself as a child that day in the dental office. It hadn’t even dawned on me until that very moment. Could this be what I was meant to do after all? I didn’t even have any dental experience at the time and had just finished a completely different schooling program. Well within a few weeks I was working chairside in Newton, MA with some of the best-known dentists in the industry. That is where I first met Dr. Allison White. Dr. White was such a breath of fresh air and I absolutely loved working with her. I thought to myself, she is going to be such an amazing boss lady one day and become a true inspiration to those who meet her. I was able to work with Dr. White for a couple of years before she went of to work with her dad, Dr. Sheffield at Killingly Dental Care. Throughout my dental career I have assisted in general and cosmetic dentistry along with a great group of periodontists, endodontists, implant specialists and prosthodontists. I have been able to work with some of the world’s most cutting-edge technologies in dentistry like digital scanners, 3D- printers and my favorite, the Cerec software and milling unit that makes crowns and bridges in one visit. I also have helped design and fabricate athletic mouthguards for Nike and pro-college football teams to help protect their teeth when on the field. From the beginning of my dental journey, I have been crossed trained in all departments of dentistry including administrative roles and patient management.

Most recently, as of January last year, Dr. White had asked me to join her and the Killingly Dental Care team. I am proudly part of the complete care mission, and I am currently working as a lead treatment coordinator. The ability to help patients understand their dental needs and goals along with what to expect chairside is extremely rewarding. I am honored to be here while Dr. White and Dr. Sheffield are still practicing together. With Dr. Sheffield retiring at the end of June and Dr. White helping lead and grow the practice her dad started back in 1985, it is truly fantastic to now call her my amazing boss lady.

Annette

ANNE - Registered Dental Hygienist (Retired as of April 2020)

It was 1987 when I answered an ad in the turnpike buyer for a dentist looking for a hygienist. I was buying a house in my home town of Plainfield after working in Boston for five years and I needed a a job. That was the beginning of my 33 year working relationship and friendship with Dr Sheffield. Back then if you went on an interview, it wasn’t the question of the office wanting you, it was do you want to work there? I did. It took a few months for our house paperwork to go through but Dr. SHEFFIELD said he would wait.

I had the luxury of adjusting my hours over the years as my children were born and the staff at that time were all having babies and building families as was Dr. Sheffield and his wife. Allison (Dr. White) was only one. It was the perfect job. But.... it wasn’t JUST a job. We girls became sisters and though we are all gone from the office, we are still great friends. The patients I’d have on my schedule became so much more than THAT to me over the years. I’ve had regular lunch dates, dinner dates, weddings invites, birthdays parties to attend, next generations to love and worry about, funerals, and tears and hugs shared just about every day. It will be those small things I miss as I venture out into my next chapter. I intend to have those lunch dates and dinner parties but I will not have the daily interaction and catch up on the lives of those I’ve so easily grown to love. Dr. Sheffield was the perfect boss. He trusted that we had his back and the welfare of his patients which were as much our priority as his. He values family in the office, is really funny (I think) and a REALLY good dentist. So what’s changed?

I’ve had 3 new babies born since April 18th and another coming in October. With blessings from sweet Scotty, my plan was to reduce my working hours in January anyhow but sometimes a gift is presented in an unexpected way and the time off for quarantine gave me the opportunity to see what and where I would be needed and needing to do. Were they surprised when I told them? Not really. Maybe sad. It’s always sad when a good thing ends. Thank you Dr. Sheffield and Allison for so much more than a job. Thank you to my friends who just so happen to be my patients. If You truly know me well you know how much I have valued your time with me. I am blessed.

My Friends, with all my heart... Thank You.
